How do you know? :D
That it's not a 66?
S'pose with a car thats been so heavily modified it's difficult to tell but I can't imagine they put on later lights, bonnet, doors etc but the main thing id the fuel filler.

Did I pass?

It's not too bad, as a custom beetle it's not the worst I agree.

One question though - How much do you have to modify a '66 before it's no longer a '66?

I think the identity is held on the chassis tunnel, everything else can be swapped out or changed and it'll still hold it's VIN and reg, it might be a bitch when it comes to ordering parts, but it still has the identity.

BTW That annoys me whenever I order parts from OTTO or GSF etc., they always ask 'what year is it?' and I try to explain it doesn't matter, this is what I need.

Are the structure patterns/ridges not different on older chassis'?
Not sure what other differences there are. With beetles it seems that the identification of the car lies solely with the centre tunnel section, especially when its easy to change floor pans.

+1... I tried to buy a part for the passat there on Friday at the local motor factors. Their supplier for German car parts is Otto in Dublin and as soon as yer man had the Otto dude on the phone and described the part he needed Otto asked for the reg of the car. I couldn't remember it (it was a brake part so the car would have been unsafe to drive to the motor factors, I couldn't just nip out and read it) so Otto could go no further. Or at least wasn't willing to. He lost the sale to the next motor factors who looked up a catalogue...

feckin monkeys only know how to operate their little computers and aren't interested in anything outside their little procedures. Don't get me started on trying to buy car parts other than LED mudflaps from Halfords. Now those guys are specimens Dublin Zoo would be proud of...

Halford's are fine but you have to know exactly what you want and tell them so.

I know one person who asked for a Vernier caliper and was met with 'What car mate?' :ROFLMAO:

Our local Halfords are extremely helpful....I've been there 3 times in the last month. Each time i've asked the same guy about whatever it is i'm looking for. Each time he's recommended another motor factors, because they're better value/quality....

Take a hint; they don't want your money. :D

MO'C can have it instead.
