2 grand though? It'd be worth getting to rip the shitty spoilers off, do something about that nasty grille (subtle louvres on the front of the bonnet might be more tasteful) and do something with the bumpers. I'd be mortified driving that as it is.

Oh it could definitely be saved. Maybe a turbo conversion, mount the intercooler in the small whale tail, take off the bloody ridiculous whales jawbone, and sort the front and set fire to the headliner. And porsche cups (sorry have a thing for cups on beetles) Wouldn't be a bad car at all.
