Hi Guys and Gals! I'm throwing out an open invitation to everybody for this cracker of a weekend. It is pretty much the last camp out of the year for many of us before our beloved VWs are put away for the winter. It is definitely a must attend weekend and as usual the craic is immense and the vehicles are always great too. Normally about 20 odd busses and a few beetles turn up every year, but many many more are welcome! ;)

Generally, the itinerary is as follows:

Friday 19th - Drive down to The Railway Tavern in Camp (Yes, that is the name of the place!) and park up for the night and have a few beers and a good ol' bit of banter and chat.

Sat 20th - Rise and Shine, cook the brekkie in your van/bus or go for brekkie a short spin away, then generally around 11.00 ish, set off on a legendary spin that takes in Connor's pass/Slea head, then on to Inch Strand for a park up and take in the sea air and into the restaurant on the beach for some crackin' food. Then when we're all fed, it is on to Knightly's wonderland, a haven for VW lovers. Then back to the Railway Tavern for a trad session and a few beers. The stuff memories are mad of.

Sun 20th - Rise and Shine, have the brekkie and then hang around for a while and then set off in our VW convoys to different parts of the country, aka Home!!!

I'll cut to the chase here - regardless of how many VW clubs there are in Ireland and regardless of the past, this weekend is a VW weekend and all are welcome. I cannot stress how great this weekend is and even the pub is a spectacle to behold. Oh, and the view when you wake up in your van/bus on a Saturday/Sunday morning is even worth the trip.

There are two rooms up over the pub and they can be booked at very reasonable rates if you would prefer it. You can check out the pub here:

So .......................................................... who's going? If you want to go (you don't wanna miss out), copy and paste the list (in a reply) and then add your name on the end and post. Let's make it the biggest ever in history.

List:

Hey everyone! we're new campers, just bought our first van, an '81 T25 last week! We'd be interested in the camp out, only problem is we have no heater in the van yet, the walls are insulated though. What do ye think, would we survive all toes intact? It looks like it's going to be in the region of 5-8 degrees in Kerry over the weekend according to Met Eireann, we might get away with it in Winter sleeping bags?

Oh do you mean run a heater off the gas/wiring for the cooker? Is that something I could get in a regular camping or scout shop? Going to try and get some good winter sleeping bags in the morning anyway!

No, man! The cooker creates heat! Light it for a few minutes and it'll have the van toasty for when you go to bed. I've stayed in a tent at this and survived. You'll be grand.

Ha ya ok, I probably won't try that one anytime soon if I can help it ;) Probably stick to the hot water bottles for now!

Boiling the kettle on the cooker inside the van for your hot water bottle will have it nice and toasty for you in a few mins. I wouldn't be lighting the cooker without something like the kettle sitting on it anyway. You will be surprised how quick the small space can warm up..
