That car was around Gorey about 10 years ago and then moved off to Cork, it was in pretty bad shape at the time.
No wonder it "nead restoration" - it was parked up under the weather in Little Island for a couple of years not too far away from me. It was on original wheels as far as I can remember.

€3250 a bit rich for the start of a restoration project. You'd drag a better one back from the Netherlands or Germany for way less than that.

Bugnut is still selling his '79 one too BTW, I saw he bumped the ad on Vagdrivers recently. It appears to be in way better shape and similar money to that one.

I had that bookmarked. Sorry I didn't buy it now... :)

Region.... London. I don't see any mention of Carlow. Price is in pounds too. Seems very cheap for a 67.
Personally I'd pass.

Ah, I see now. You have to pay the vrt if it's still on uk plates. Depending on how long it's in the country it could cost a fair bit. I don't know much about the costs.
I'm on the kilkenny/Carlow border so could take a look for you if it's local to me?

Is VRT not capped at €200 for cars over a certain age,or am I dreaming(I could very well be)

VRT is capped at €200 but as rez said, there are penalties that accrue for every day it's been in the country and unregistered, after the initial grace-period. The penalties are a percentage of the VRT cost and are designed to stop people driving on UK plates for months on end. There are ways of getting around that though. Like a receipt from a shipping firm that just happened to deliver last week...

from googling the phone number on the ad, he's hawked that beetle everywhere bar Ireland (VZI, carandclassic, thesamba, gumtree) for some strange reason. He's also offering to ship it to the UK for the asking price so either he's English and sees it as an excuse to make a visit to home or he's really eager to shift it. Google also tells me he's in Borris, Co. Carlow.
