They easy to convert lhd to rhd ? Know goofs are relatively easy not sure bout passats. Lhd option gives you lot more to choose from and possibly better looked after too so better condition

thanks Britt, that one's an '88 so too new. It's LHD too which is less than ideal for my future daily driver.

After a very short while you won't even notice it's a lefty, even in a daily driver. The usual talking points of car parks, toll booths, etc. aren't really an issue given any kind of low frequency use.

ah sure I know, I know. I've driven the LHD Westy daily over the summer gone and yeah, I think just once I got caught out with a barrier-controlled car park. Over the whole summer. It's just I'd like to see if I could find an original Irish one first. If after a few weeks I can't, I'll look farther afield.

@Baz, my Swedish ain't what it used to be but I could get no good out of that blocket site. Couldn't find a search bar anywhere or any way of browsing the classifieds. I'm using Firefox and even tried viewing it through Google Translator. Do I have to install Chrome to view it?

I got a call from a chap with an '81 Passat estate today. It's a German import s LHD, no rust alegedly but I'll judge that for myself. The LHD thing wouldn't be too much of a turn off, there's a dead B2 saloon a couple of miles from here that I might be able to pick up for scrap value to donate parts like the dash, pedals, steering rack etc. The biggest problem that I could garner from our conversation is that it's been in the country a couple of years but was never registered. Seller reckons the papers are with it but has to double check. Can this be gotten around without paying a massive penalty? What if there's no paperwork at all?

yeah, I'd like to find out how much the tax office would charge, (minimum €200 VRT anyway plus €30-odd for the cheapest plates) and then use that as a bargaining tool to get his price down. Then I'd have all the hassle of jumping through the paperwork hoops etc. Even if it cost nothing, the RHD conversion would cost the price of a donor car plus all the work so it would want to be very cheap to compare to the equivalent Irish RHD car.

Now, I just have to find the equivalent Irish RHD car...
