Tony's gonna flip out: I'm on the hunt for a B2 Passat estate.

I know, I know, they have a face only a mother could love and even then only while squinting but still, I'm in the mood for one.

It HAS to be an estate, it HAS to be 1983 or older and it HAS to be rust free or 99.99% rust free. Seriously, I do not want to get into another resto. Engine size or flavour doesn't matter a jot, even if it has a seized or missing engine, that's no problem, I'll be TDIing it either way.

They appear to be thin on the ground these days: I'd say the various scrappage schemes and then the scrap-collectors have seen off the vast bulk of them but I'm hoping that maybe, just maybe one of you guys has an elderly neighbour who put their Passat Estate away in their heated garage a few years ago when they got too shaky to drive and would like to pass it on to an enthusiastic idiot like me. I went to view a B2 estate today but it was left outside for the last 10 years and has suffered accordingly. It was also a 1985 model so it failed on more than one count.

Here's some inspiration to help jog those memory banks. Think hard now, surely you know someone who has one stashed away somewhere...

you get the idea. Failing that, I'd consider an early C3 Audi 100 Avant either but that's probably rarer than the B2 estate :(

yeah, I saw that one too. I'd be tempted only it's a hatch, not an estate. I'm really holding out for an estate for lugging the dags around in. There was a lovely silver GL5 estate for sale in Leeds on ebay a couple of weeks ago (the silver one in my first post in fact) but it sold before I was ready to buy. Plus it was quite expensive for what it was and in Leeds. But still, if the right car came up at the right price in the UK, I'd go for it.

Stick with the estate idea. Get a cage/crate for the dogs in the estate. Forget the trailer.

ah, I love the smell of wet dog in the car. I have a dog screen behind the back seats in the B4 Passat and it works perfectly. I also like the "van" like interior of an estate. At the current stage in my life with sprogs and dogs, an estate ticks a lot of boxes...
