I got this on VAGdrivers recently with the intention of fixing it up. I went looking for parts and panels to replace the bad bits on it and luckily found what I needed.
Thinking about it now though, I don't reckon I'll get around to it any time soon, I have too many projects on and not nearly enough time.
The car is pretty solid except for the usual battery tray rot you get on 99% of polos/derbys from '76 to '93 and a small hole at the bottom of the rear screen. It's the kind of car that nobody would criticise you for just fibreglassing up the holes but obviously cutting out the rot and welding in fresh steel would be the real way to do the car justice.
The doors and left wing are f**ked with rust but I have two left doors and one right to replace them and I have a pair of front wings to go with it. The left headlamp is flooded but I have a good lamp too. Other spares also included like spare grille, glass, steel wheels and various other small parts.
Unlike many other derbys the inner wings are rock solid. This is a common rot spot on mk1 Polos and derbys but this one didn't succumb to it. The body shell itself is very good except for the bolt-on panels.
I'm just looking for my money back on this: €200. Cheap basis for an easy project IMO. I'd love to go at it myself but time is against me these days... It would make a super rat looker with a set of wheels and ebay lowering springs. It's eligible for cheap vintage tax and insurance and once resurrected there's no reason why it couldn't be driven daily. I drove my old one daily. Cheap and cheerful motoring...
