Since the wheels are off the 1500, I'm thinking of changing the windows.

Current ones are scratched, if anyone has a set Scratch freei would be grateful.

I couldn't find anywhere that would machine polish the glass, I've a few shamrock panes on the car willing to swap for good scratch free panes.

Are you looking for 70 windows? or windows for a '70's car?

If your taking out the front windscreen put in a laminated one. i've heard that jewellery shops use somthing for taking out scratches on glass

I've about 20ish windows available, various sizes, PVC, might be a bit of a job to fit them all to the Beetle though...

I have lots of '70s beetle glass, I'll root through them to see if any of them are unscratched. Might be hard to find unscratched 40+ year old glass though. If you're really deicated to the cause of scratch free glass you could investigate getting OEM VW Mexico glass through Heritage or one of the Irish suppliers. You'd be guaranteed of its condition but it might be pricey. All except the rear screen would be the same between your 1970 beetle and the last 2003 beetle built. Except maybe the last oens had tinted glass. I dunno.

Jewellers rouge is what you are looking for. I used to use it for french polishing.

There is a kit sold on ebay for glass polishing scratches as well.

Thanks Trev, I'd take you up on that. Even if some have light scratch's specially drivers/passengers panes of glass.

I'd be inclined to leave to current ones in and remove the scratches. You're unlikely to get scratch free secondhand glass and you run the risk of leaks or glass damage if you take your glass out and put it back again.

Have you spoken to these people?

They sell a diy kit or can do the job for you.

Thanks Aidan, I gave them a bell. Their a nice crowd to deal with, in fairness to the guy I was talking to do the beetle without touching the inside of the glass it would be a days labour running to around €400.

He suggested as you did as well buying the kit and doing it yourself, I think my uncle might have a polisher. It'll be handy to have sure, and if anyone in the club can't see
out the window with scracthes they can try it too.
