Sorry, Once again really late this year in putting something up. Making preparations for the 5th Annual Barn, Bugs, and Wags. It will be on October 25th and 26th at VW Spares in Castledermot. This is a bank holiday weekend so you will have Monday to recover!

Once again, the event will kick-off on Saturday (arrive after 4pm) and will finish up with prize giving around 3 pm Sunday. We'll be holding the event again this year in the indoor riding area next to VW Spares so you're welcome to 'camp' in your van or a tent overnight indoors. There will be an abundance of Tea and Coffee provided, a BBQ on Saturday night with burgers and sausages, and if you want to bring any food for yourself to cook on the BBQ please do. We'll also have some food on the Sunday.
This year we'll have trophies for Best Early Beetle/Ghia (pre 1967), Best Beetle/Ghia (post 1967), Best Bus, and People's Choice Award. We're also adding a new category for Water-cooled this year due to the popular rise of the T25 and T4. If Eircooled (Trevor) could produce one of their trophies that would be great, I’m sure Liam would like to pass on his title. Going to have some prizes this year, nothing fancy a few hoodies and vouchers and anything I can scrounge..

Would Eircooled and Type 2 Ireland like to bring a Store down to sell merchandise or membership applications?
If anyone wants to bring down some bits to sell please do.

Need some entertainment, Any chance Rez can offer his services for few hours. Will provide a heater just in case it’s a little nippy, but hopefully this summer will continue

If you would like any parts ordering to collect at the show please phone me on 0866038449 or e-mail me at sales@vwspares.ie. Also a new shop should be fully open at this point.

Once again any suggestions are gratefully received.

Many thanks
Jon

I'll knock together a "Silver Spanner" award for the best DIY project of 2014 and another, the much coveted "Busted Spanner" award for the biggest DIY cock-up of 2014. If anyone wants to make any suggestions as to who might be a suitable recipient of either, please let me know by PM. :)

I'd be up for djing again unless Duts wants to entertain us with his spoons instead?
How about I just knock the shit out of you for the evening, plenty would pay to see that! Oh and if by djing ya mean plugging in your Ipod and letting it play go nuts it actually wasnt horrendous last time!! Your welcome

Silver Spanner trophy almost finished. Busted Spanner trophy will be hastily fucked together the morning of BB&W ;)

These aren't the "Best in Show" kind oftrophy people get for having carefully manicured cars with perfectly polished paint. These are awards that celebrate the best in home-brewed resourcefulness, ingenuity, tenacity, the "have-a-go" attitude that is the backbone of amateur enthusiast clubs like ours. While it's great that some have the resources to fund a professional restoration (it keeps our traders in business :) ) others pursue the hobby with dirty fingernails, busted knuckles and late nights in the garage. We expect great results from the professionals but it's always nice to see someone produce something of high quality from their own shed or backyard. We need to recognise it and reward it. The Silver Spanner is recognition of the DIYers efforts and comes with the admiration of their peers for their willingness to roll up the sleeves, get stuck in and turn out quality work.

The Busted Spanner on the other hand is the booby prize. The "you should have known better than to try that" prize. The "what the fuck were you thinking" prize. The "OMG, Facepalm" prize. Think "spend ages carefully building up your engine from scratch only to spin a bearing on the first trip out" kind of thing, or "servicing your motor only to forget to tighten the sump plug and piss oil all the way from home to work and then immediately presume vandals must have done it" kind of thing. You know who you are ;)

I need suggestions for recipients of both. Who had the best DIY project of 2014? Who had the biggest DIY fuck-up of 2014?

Please PM suggestions before Sunday :)

Sunday usually has the most people there, the people from the Saturday evening plus the day-trippers :)

Unfortunately this clashes with a Family do so I will be unable to attend this.Cannot think of any reason why I would be a repeat recipient of that f$%£ing Spanner..It was a great honour to receive such a magnificient trophy.
