Hi there, haven't been on here in years and years but I have an engine for sale if anyone needs it.
It was a brand new VW Mexico 1600 long block and wouldn't have much more than 5000 miles done, though it hasn't been started since, by my calculations, around 2013!
I had a 71 tin top bay window bus at the time, and when I sold it, I put the 'original' 1600 single port engine it had come with, as I couldn't part with this engine, planning to keep it for a split screen resto that never happened unfortunately, as my mechanic, (the brother) fell ill after that..
It had a new carb at that time, and never missed a beat, I mostly used the van at festivals at the time and not much touring at all so it didn't do many miles and I was religious about servicing it at short intervals, and it always had oil pressure and temperature sensors fitted, so it was treated really gently!
Of course, after this time, it would be wise to renew all the seals, but I've no doubt it would start first time with a battery and a drop of petrol.
It has 2 good heat exchangers fitted but no exhaust.
I'll have to check the tinware situation, we might have beetle tinware here, as both my brothers were bug drivers back in the day, there's some fitted but I think it's mostly split screen, as we built the single port engine back up when selling the 71 bay window.
I haven't figured a price yet, as I've been out of the loop on VWs a long time, but it will be a fair deal anyway - send me a PM and we can chat.
Cosmetically, there's surface rust on the fan shroud etc, as to be expected having sat this while, but it has been stored in a dry garage and will clean up perfectly.
I've just a couple of crap photos I grabbed this morning as I'll have to pull it out from the shelves where it's stored and get proper pics .
