Looking for a cheap 1600 (and upwards) if anyone has one? Would prefer it to be complete and running but would consider anything, ideally nothing siezed or with miles of endfloat though :D

The engine codes still confuse me, maybe someone can clarify my assumption from the codes below:

(vw) D 0630749 = 1300
(vw) D 0645605 = 1300
AD 256470 = 1600
AB 021 = 1300?
AR 118141 = ?

Sorry Padraig about the thread hi-jack!

yes D = 1200 , AB = 1300 , AR = 1300 , AD = 1600.

I'm must be out of touch - the last rebuilt 1600 I bought was from Morris Buckley in Cork and IIRC I paid £500 for it.

Mind you, that was about 10 years ago...:D

Had no idea that a 'lowly' 1600 would fetch that kind of money, still, I guess you couldn't build it for much less by the time you've spent on parts and labour. Makes me think that my old T4 went for way too little now...

So what kind of money are larger capacity motors going for? I know its very subjective and down to the choice of components, how far you go with match port/polishing, etc but ballpark figures? Say an 1835cc and a 2007cc?

The last one I had was also from Maurice Buckley back in 2003, and was 1000. :D

I've spent well over 1500 just on parts to go into my 1955cc longblock, I still need to pay for the case, oil system, heads... etc. etc.
I already have the carbs, exhaust, tinware and other ancillaries, which would easily double the cost.
A good s/h 1776 should sell for around 2k AFAIK, a stroker a few hundred more... VZi is a good source for market prices.

(anyone know how to type a euro symbol on Linux?)
