1970 1302

I've had this a few years but never got around to doing anything with it. Bought her from 2 lads in Ballyfermot who unfortunately had to vacate the 'space' where they were working on her. As far as I know the rear quarter panels were done, as were the heater channels, floors, new doors. I have new wings for her (new and sprayed for a different project (not by me I hasten to add), but 100% good. Also have a good 4 slot vented engine lid.

She's been dry stored since I bought her, and is 100% rust free as far as I can recall (there pics were taken shortly after I bought her). I don't have shots of the work the lads did but I recall they had a thread on another site (SVF) at the time where they'd shown the rebuild....! It came with a whole lot of bits including new carpet set, new headliner (still in box), new handles (locks & keys), full set of brakelines, new greyish/blue cloth interior inc doorcards (seats are still 100%, although currently in the Marathon.... very, very comfortable). 1300 engine is out and sitting in my garage ever since...! Once again, never did get around to doing anything with it (was going to uprate it to 1600).

There's a small dent in the roof (nothing major, see pics) and I think there's one small dent at the very front (looks like something bumped into it..?) Will take a snap of this when I get a chance.

Password is 1302project

So.... like I suggest, I can either hold onto her and throw the money at her that was to go towards the Marathon.... or I can sell her and throw that money at the Marathon instead. Question is... what's she worth? The answer to that question will determine whether she remains a future 'project' or whether she becomes 'part payment' on the Marathon....!!!

I have the original brown logbook also.

Any info, suggestions, etc welcomed...

Ta,
Paul

Very nice beetle..liking the rat look. if the body is a sound as you reckon it would be a simple enough restro to get nice and tidy again. especially with all the parts there. what sort of a price would you think of selling it for??

Hi Matt.

If I were to sell her I'd be looking for 3k minimum and when considers the cost of panels and particularly welding I think it's worth it... well that's what she's worth to me anyway. Anything less and I'll probably hold on to her and get around to having her sprayed up and reassembled some day. Am I being completely delusional..?

As for the rat look. :) .. not my doing. The lads who put her together were mostly working outdoors and she was merely covered over when lying idle. They'd finish a section and then simply prime it and give it a blast of paint just to keep the weather off her. :)

The 'one colour wiring' is a result of their vivacious need to prime things too......!!!!

Hi Paul

Its always a diffucult question to get an answer to , most people will refrain from offering an opinion in fear of causing offence.

I on the other hand couldn''t give a monkeys and could always take a good punch.....lol

Honestly I would think your definately a little top heavy with your price expectations there compared with €3k being asked for a 1955 oval in the same state of restoration.

Unfortunately 1302's havnt reached the level of appeal that earlier cars have and therefore tend to fetch a lower price.

I'd say you would get €3k for it if it were done and up and running but needing work you would be somewhere near half that as a value.
Just my humble opinion though, I could always be corrected .

By the way being completely delusional would only make you seem more endearing to most of us on here ........lol

Heck everyone's entitled to their opinion and indeed I did ask the question, but I suspect that the parts alone that have gone into this would cost the guts of 1,500-2k and if welding prices are anything to go by, to have them welded in would cost another 2 or 3k (judging roughly on prices I was getting whilst searching around for the Marathon resto - although she needs a lot more). The 1302 may not be as popular (and I completely agree, as I prefer the standard model myself) but I reckon there's still value in a 100% rust free body that really just needs blocking and spraying. Also, if I were to finish her and knowing how solid she is, I'd be asking a whole lot more that 3k. I've seen 'reasonable' Beetles for sale for around that price and all with a 'needs some work' tag.

:)
