you have to grind off the heads from the rivets and replace with bolts, nuts and crucially, washers too.

It does indeed, I got the gearbox out of it in 2018/19, can't remember which. It's in Duts's Beetle now. The remains of the car weren't great. It looked like it had gone on fire, a resto had been attempted then abandoned. Finally left out in the weather to seal its fate.
