I'm looking for a new exhaust for my car. The turbo trip one I have is fecked and needs replacing. I need something that I can run with heat exchangers and won't smack off every speed ramp I go over and will provide a good flow for my engine. Anyone got anything?

saw your exhaust today ross, its fucked, typical monkey metal scrap, what brand was it? empi or bug pack, the bug pack ones tend to last a little longer.

It's an EMPI one but the problem is if I change to a bugpack muffler I'll have to change the header too. I might just splash out on a stainless or ceramic empi muffler and get the stainless header when that rots. I can't afford the full system right now.

your cheapest bet is to just replace the muffler like for like 60 quid for a new one will last you another year, havnt seen a stainless version of the turbo trip, good quality exhausts aren't cheap, my a1 system wasn't cheap but it isn't what i would call good quality, csp or speedshop seem to make the best but i wouldn't spend 700 quid on an exhaust unless i had a money tree. you must strap those exhausts up properly, the vibration helps them fall apart quicker and yours wasn't strapped.

I think that's what I'll end up doing for the moment. There's a bugpack version of the turbo trip in ceramic which I might go for in the future though. I gave Dave an exhaust mounting bracket to install while he's doing everything else. I hope the arrival of the front gearbox mount doesn't hold up the show too. How did you reckon the engine was running while you were there?

well the inlet manifold was loose on one side, so she would be running rough, the exhaust was blowing a hoolie (not a holie lol) most of the noise is due to the exhaust, the engine still sounded good and strong, unfortunately these aren't 10k a year motors you can use without maintenance, oil changes aren't enough, once a month (on daily use) i would be going round checking everything, what did you cut your oil lines with a beaver? sounds like you a plugged idle jet, i'll go thru the carbs when saves ready, a good 2nd filter is a must (which i know dave is doing) i ran 2 filters for 3 years and think i had a blocked jet once or twice in that time, ran 1 filter on the new engine and have had a succession of blockages.

I have to admit, blocked idle jets are a regular occurrence on mine too. I really need decent filters...

do you run two justin? i swear by two if the gauze in tank one is removed. i drilled and tapped my tank for a bigger outlet, so the gauze had to be removed, so i have a pre filter to the pump (under the tank) then another good quality filter after, plugged idles are a pain in the ass thats for sure, you can clear them with a long wot blast sometimes, or if you isolate the cylinder do the rev n palm over the stack, that will work sometimes too, other than that its pull the jet, piss easy on dells, but a pain in the hole if its no3 or no1 on a weber.

I had kind of thought it might have been one of the inlet manifolds loose that was causing the hassle. It hasn't been like that for long anyway, but that's why I got it up to yourselves. I didn't cut the oil lines myself. I got that done during the resto. I'd like to get proper oil lines made up with swaged fittings on the end at some stage. Do they need to be replaced yet? I'll have a chat with you when I'm up again and go through a maintenance routine and get some pointers as to what I should be checking. I'd have a fair idea but you'd probably have a few other ideas too. Whats a pisser is that it's dark at 5pm so I don't have much time aside from at the weekends to do anything with the car. I just have to use it. It's only a temporary thing using it so much every day anyway. The reality is I can't afford to have 2 cars on the road right now. From June until October it won't be used as much anymore then. Once Im qualified I'll be able to look at buying a second car. Thanks for the info!

Sorry, no, I was getting confused there; It's poor quality air filters that give me grief.

are you sure, i ran no airfiiters for 4 years and never had any real bother, when it was rebuilt i decided to run filters and left the 2nd fuel filter off and had nothing but bother, great misconceptions eh!!!
