I've removed the 1800 type4 engine from my bus and I'm considering selling it. A part of me says to keep it because it's a "known" good engine with a lot of work/parts/time/money gone into but if there's someone going to wave cash in my face I could be convinced to let it go.

It's an 1800cc type 4 engine, complete from rocker cover to rocker cover, from clutch to exhaust tip. All tinware, alternator, heat exchangers, silencer, rear engine support bar are all there. It's exactly as it came from my running van. COMPLETE.

It's got a new 215mm clutch kit just 1000miles ago and the cylinder heads were completely rebuilt by HPMP in Tullow, Co. Carlow with new valves, guides, valve seats. That was about 3000 miles ago, in 2007. It's got twin Weber 34ICTs with the full linkage kit and cone filters. It's also got a Facet solid-state fuel pump, the original mechanical pump has been removed and blanked off. It's had new rings fitted at the same time as the head rebuild with the cylinders honed at the same time. New Elring gasket set fitted throughout plus the crank oil seal that doesn't come in the gasket set. It's a good strong engine with no issues.

If I remember any more details I'll update the ad.

So, the dirty bit: I'm looking for €1800 for it. I think it's well worth it. Break it down and do the sums yourself, you'll see what it would cost to build/rebuild an engine like this. I don't *have* to sell it, I would like to keep it "just in case" but as I said if someone has cash for me...

if I can find a 2litre gearbox I'll have a known good 1800cc "5-rib" gearbox for sale too...

I now have the engine in the back if my Transit, ready to drop off for storage in my mates garage on Monday.

Was great to meet you today Trev and look at the beautiful Audi in the "tin"... and meet your two cool dogs. It's always good to have a nice dose of "car talk" on a Sat morning.

Anyway, it looks like I may have the 1800 gearbox too if things work out favourably for Trev with his 2L search, so I'm thrilled to have chance to have a better ratio box.

The plan is to get the engine into the van some weekend over the next few weeks and clean up the wiring in the engine bay... and sort out the starter. Again thanks to Trev for help on that front too.... gentleman :)

Hopefully this will give me a reason to post a bit more than I have been of late. I've been setting up a company and haven't even had a moment to scratch my arse!

I have a 2L gearbox arranged with Cosy Classics, I'm due to collect it on Monday so once I have the 1800 box out it's yours Hugo .
I also called to see if GSF have a 200mm clutch, they do so I'll be getting that on Monday too.

you're right, it's always good to talk some car shite on a Saturday morning! ;)

best of luck with the engine (and box), they served me well for a long while now. Hopefully you'll have many many more miles with it :)

Quick change of plan. I'm going to put it in the back garden for a few weeks and do a nice job on the tinware and give it a good old clean..... after all a clean engine runs better, right?
