I hadn't really considered selling up but since you asked...
I have a half-finished (half-started?) Subaru powered oval window beetle.
The bullet points:
1997 (bought in 2003 with low mileage) 2.0T WRX engine. I think it's in the neighbourhood of 250+ BHP as it won't be running air-con, power steering or a catalytic convertor. Obviously not dyno'd to prove that.
5spd Porsche 911 (915) transmission
DS Tuning (Germany) adapter kit with modified 911 flywheel and brand new genuine Porsche 911 ring gear for starter
911 clutch kit (Sachs)
944 n/a rear brakes on late turbo aluminium arms (wide)
944 turbo drive shafts and CVs adapted to transmission via custom drilled 950-sized output flanges
944 rear anti-roll bar
944 n/a front brakes and master cylinder.
currently on a modified 1303 chassis but I have a good semi-auto beetle chassis with new pans to swap in (IRS rear, beam front) this will make the project much more straightforward than having to build up a spaceframe to accomodate front struts.
'55 Swedish LHD oval shell in very good condition, rust-wise. It's been cut about a LOT to accommodate the engine and box etc under stock bodypanels. (i.e. the engine won't be visible once the engine lid is closed, no protruding parts) The chassis will have to be converted to LHD to suit the shell but I have the pedal assembly etc to do that.
I got the shell bare but over the years I've collected up the parts required to fill it out as they popped up for sale. I have all the dash furniture, doors, correct "W" engine lid, rear wings, semaphores, snowflake tail lamps, correct oval headlamps, all the correct oval glass (Irish shamrock etched) the list goes on. Just today I picked up a fibreglass flip-front clip for it.
It also has the full loom from the Subaru there with it, from the headlamps right back to the front seats. Included is the ECU, clocks, ignition switch etc. Intercooler and exhaust downpipe also present. Self-supporting automatic bay-window bus starter included too.
full type-25 engine access hatch with surrounding metalwork included. This is so the gaping hole inside the rear of the car can be closed off but still have access to the engine and gearbox once the hatch is removed.
oh, I have 5x NOS Porsche steel wheels for it. The plan was to have them banded to the width I need once I'd decided how wide the wings were going to be. Could also come with a set of Teledials to keep the project rolling while the steels were being banded.
Honestly, I've stopped counting how much I've spent on the car over the last ten years, it's well into the 8-9 grand territory at this stage. You wouldn't know by looking at it, it's just a collection of very expensive parts
Make no mistake, it would be quite a project to take on. You'd better be handy with the spanners. If you're not put off by this stage, email me at trevor_brady at hotmail and we'll talk turkey...
oh, we all love pics round here so...
note the orange wide rear wings are no longer with the car, there's a pair of steel wings suitable for widening with it.
