Anybody know if I can get a steering wheel splined adaptor, to fit a Porsche large bore steering wheel to a 76 beetle narrow shaft steering column.

I,m considering removing the narrow spline fitting from the bottom of the crush tube on a beetle steering wheel , and replacing it onto the crush tube of the porsche steering wheel, if I cant get an adaptor.

Adaptor is the quickest option, but the swap from one wheel to another is a straight forward job too.
Thanks

Tim, which Porsche is the wheel from?

I fitted a Porsche 924 wheel to my beetle years ago by removing all the plastic trim from both the 924 and plastic '70s "wolfsburg" steering wheels, drilling out the brass rivets that held the internal crush zone in both wheels, swapped the crush zones over, inserted M6 nuts and bolts, welded them for safety and put the plastic back on. The resuls was flawless and factory looking.

Sounds like the same job ahead of me alright trev.

Its the large boss on the porsche wheel trev, but I dont know which one. The spline on the beetle is the narrow shaft, about 18mm diameter, as i understand it , the pre74 shafts were a perfect fit for the porsche wheel.

I haven,t looked too close at the spleen fixings, but if its only rivets, thats handier again. I,ll check tomorrow. I got the wheel because soem large seats were fitted into the beetle by the previous owner, and I need another bit of leg room.

How did you get around the horn power supply that was fed through the brass ring. I was thinking of picking up the power supply further down the shaft below the brass ring.
