Wonder if anyone here can help me. I'm after a starter motor for a 77 bus. Prefably looking for a 2 liter starter motor that would fit my 1600 gearbox, CU Code. I was looking at the high torq starters, but mega expensive due to shipping! The reason for the high tork starter, is because i have a really big engine!!!
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks

I got a high torque start in the past from Martin Murray, it's going back a few years but I don't remember it being too crazy in price?

Bell housing on an 002 trans is shorter than a 091 and the 2.0 starter will sit too deep I believe in your 1600 box. Rabbit or Golf Diesel starters are very torquey too to turn over that big engine.

Didn't Trev do some research into what starters fit.............? Although that was for a 091 trans if memory serves.........?

Thanks for all the replies! I did try a golf starter motor, but i had clearence issues with the solinoid! I Might try the oridginal starter, but would really like a high tork one. I might try Martin!

The motors themselves are much the same ( build quality aside ) , the type 4 engined buses had a longer nose on the later ones to clear the bigger flywheel/ clutch arrangement .
There are various high torque starter motors on the market....I'd imagine a good standard Starter would turn over most engines

his bell housing is the longer 091 type even though he has a cu code box so he needs the longer nosed starter motor .

I hope that he has also changed his lower engine mount studs, and he needs the longer starter bolt too.

yes the engine has the longer studs fitted and i have a longer starter bolt for him .
its not uncommon to find 1600 cu code boxes with the 091 bell housing in irish built late bays .
