Sorry for hijacking your thread Tim - I just noticed your comment about tuning the H30/31.
I think I have one of those which I'm having problems with - seems to hesitate an awful lot when you move off, kinda scary when you're trying to head onto a busy roundabout!
What problems are you having with yours?
Hi marting, I,m having similar problems, the dreaded flat spot on these carbs. All the web info I,ve come across, says dump the H30/31 into the nearest bog hole. They are extremely difficult to tune, and all the best advice I,ve seen says lose it asap.
I,ve got mine running fairly well, not near as bad as yours sounds. But I,d like to get it running a little sweeter.
I,ve bought new main jets, idle jets from geneberg in the us , and I,m expecting them any day now. My own carb was jetted for a 1200 engine, and I,ve re jetted with some other jets I had. Its a lot better, but I think there is room for improvement.
I also notice my engine suffers from icing up on the manifold fairly badly, and I,m considering heat wrapping the manifold at the moment. It doesn,t idle on its own too well from a cold start, and you have to keep a small bit of pressure on the pedal for a few minutes, until it warms up, and then its not too bad. there is a small bit of hesitation on acceleration, but not as bad as it was.
Valves, timing, points and plug gap are all spot on. New svda distributor, leads, plugs too.
Thansk for the offer of the pict 34 airhead, but I think I,ll see can I get a 30 pict 1 if I can.
