I know some of ye have old diesel Golfs etc. I have a 5-speed "rod shift" diesel gearbox to suit a mk1-2-3 Golf/Jetta etc that I'm not going to use. Includes mk3 driveshafts but they might not suit mk1 or mk2. You could rob the CVs off them though.

cheap at €40. Useful to have as a spare at that price

hey trev, is the standard late model 1.6d mk1 golf a "rod shift" gearbox (excuse my ignorance)
have the family heirloom in storage at the moment until i get my shed and in my experience can never have enough spare starters to rebuild

yeah the standard 1.6D mk1-2-3 gearboxes are all rod-shift. The cable shift setup only arrived with the mk3 TDI. The starter doesn't need to be rebuilt BTW, it was working fine before being removed.
