will pay a premium for postage etc :)

part number is 7M0 951 253 or 431 951 253C or 823 951 253. All the same part.

anyone got one?

That's a very standard single contact relay Trev, they're used in Audi, BMW, Opel, etc also so don't confine your search at the scrapper to just VW. Don't be thrown by the large number printed on top either, as long as the pin locations physically match up (85,86 are the coil, 30,87 are the contact) and it's rated for 40A (or bigger) then it'll do the job. Not sure if I have one, I'll check later this morning.

thanks Padraig,

I'll bring the old relay with me to the scrappers and match the pin numbers/locations. Good to know it'll be common across a few brands. It's a wiper relay but it also provides power to the emergency flasher. I've spent the last two evenings pulling the dash of the Audi asunder and testing the electrics to find the location of the fault only to finally lift the lid off the relay itself to find the teeny tiny wire that makes up the winding inside the relay to have broken/burned out. Have to have it ready for something important on Saturday hence the urgency :)

It'd be very possible that the T25 might have one, your Passat should definitely have one if only to get you going for Saturday. I'll know shortly if I have one here...

Just looked and I only have 30A 5-pin relays. But I did notice that the fifth pin (87a) is used for another NC contact that you won't need. At worst case, if you can only locate a 5-pin 40A you can snip off the centre pin on the relay base and it'll fit into the same location as your 4-pin. Just make sure that it's rated for 40A...

Can you post a pic of the base (pref showing numbered terminals)? - I might have something in my Volvo stash

thanks for the help guys, it was a 5-pin relay. Picked up a selection that looked right from various cars at the local scrappy at lunchtime. The one from an Alfa worked.

sorted.

phew!!! what a relief...

Not Alfa's greatest creation - a Nissan Sunny/Cherry with a flat 4 - what a waste !

Great engine though . been rebuilding a 1.5 ti on twin 40.s in an AlfaSud - great little car.
