Over the last while I’ve held the Wicklow Run starting in Dublin making our way in convoy through the Wicklow Mountains. We’ve always got a decent turn out, one issue is the drive is very short but also very enjoyable. Since they’re are very few events on for the rest of the month & in September, I’ve decided to go with this one.

Everyone is welcome, the plan is to get a great spin out and a decent day as well, with hopefully plenty of picture opportunities for the calendar entries along the way. The run will start at Browns Barn, off the Naas road (Junction 4) at 10:30AM across Saggart, Brittas, Blessington and following the road to Tullow were we will catch the M8 motorway to Kilkenny. Our destination in Kilkenny will hopefully be Kilkenny Castle for 01:30 and across the way for food.

My idea of this run is if your coming from Wexford, Laois, Limerick, ect it will only be an hour each way and you can jump on/jump off the convoy. I’m waiting for a reply from Kilkenny Castle about parking in the grounds for pictures, ect.

Let me know if you think it’s worth running with or not. Please let me know which dates suit you best and if any of them clash with anything I’m not aware of.

Saturday 8th of September or Sunday 9th of September.

Saturday 22nd of September or Sunday 23rd of September.

Cheers,

Mikey.

Fair play Mikey - 22nd suits me. Nice run with a good destination. It looks like a good opportunity to blow the cobwebs off the Westy

If I can meet ye at Carlow where ye'd pick up the M9 motorway I will. If The castle don't allow parking in the grounds for photos there's nowhere really handy you'd get a bunch of cars parked at lunchtime since they remodelled the whole Parade area. You might be lucky with the Castle road out past the wall of the castle but you couldn't guarantee it. Unless you want to go to the high-rise just round the corner.

If Tramore is happening this year it will be on the 23rd, you might as well travel the extra few miles and make a day out of it!

Looks like the 22nd is out so - might as well get two runs out of it. Earlier in Sept or October instead?

I've a feeling we could get into Kilkenny Castle, but we hardly have insurance? probaly not worth the effort; not too keen on getting involed with insurance.

Hi Michael

As per your request to bring in ten classic Volkswagen cars to Kilkenny Castle Park could you please forward me the following information,

  • Date of when you want access to the Park
  • Time and duration of how long the cars will be in the Park
  • Exact number of cars looking to come into the Park
  • A copy of the Clubs public liability insurance
Regards

Would love to go but the poor bus needs a starter motor and I can safely say I'll have neither the cash nor expertise to sort it before then

The castle will let us in on the 9th of September once we have insurace of 6 million, found a few euro down the back of the sofa but still short €5,999,995. It's a pity I must say; but well who's up for a run on the 9th anyway?

From N7, across the N81 to the midlands. Any idea's?

It was worth a go anyway. What do they expect to happen that'll cost up to 6 million to sort out?

I'll be away that weekend anyway so I'm out

Only just remembered that the 23rd September is the Tramore Sea and Surf festival. While we haven't got an official invite yet, we have been asked previous years and it's always a great day out. How about we meet in Kilkenny and cruise down in convoy?

edit...... just found us mentioned half way down the page
