the owner of the Derby I sorted out is thinking of selling up. I thought I might give the headsup here before he puts it on Donedeal/VAGdrivers.
it's a '79 car, Tipperary reg. Barn find condition (i.e. ratty paintwork) but with completely overhauled brakes, suspension, engine, etc. The only bit of rust on the car was the battery tray and the bottom corner of the windscreen. It's had:
new brake disks, pads, shoes, rear cylinders, all four flexis, new master cylinder and obviously new fluid too.
new lowering springs (-60mm) and new urethane caster-correcting bushes on the front axle (original parts present)
new 175/50R13 tyres on wide mk1 GTI steels (original wheels and tyres present)
new timing belt, fan belt, fuel pump, all fuel hoses, fuel filter, oil filter, spark plugs, points, condensor
I'm sure there's more that I can't think of.
this is a 59k mile car that was sat in a shed for years and recently reawakened by me. I drove my Derby daily for ages and this one should be just as reliable. If it was my car the only change I would make would be the addition of a 5-speed gearbox which is an easy DIY swap. it's a 1.1 carbureted engine that starts willingly and drives nice. Just what you'd expect from a pretty low mileage car. Tidy unripped original interior too
