1302 column is shorter than a standard beetle due to the 1302 having a universal joint half way down. I think I have the column you need Barry, I'll check tonight :)

typical, three steering columns there, all with just indicators on the column, i.e. no wiper controls.

cheers trev, i`d say i`d get away with just swapping the inner shaft, they look the same to me apart from the obvious. i`ll have one of those off you if it`s a 21mm spline. cheers

I have that adapter. It adapts a 17mm spline to a 26mm spline.

the spline on the beetle steering column here is 21mm

either of them any use to you?

the adapter has teeth marks from a vice grip as you can see. I reckon they're installed hot and shrunk to fit as they're an unmercifully tight fit when in the Golf/Polo etc. If you'd prefer a pristine one call your local main dealer, the part number is 191 419 514 and it should be about €12 or so. You can have mine FOC if it's any use to you.

hang on, you need a 21mm o/d splined steering shaft but you have a 17mm splined steering shaft? Easiest thing to do would be to swap in the 21mm one I have then.

The problem with machining that adapter would be cutting the splines again.

the adapter would be easier as it wouldn`t be me doing the work :p

no you`re right i`ll just swap the shaft. thinking about it , i`ll be taking it apart anyways to clean and paint the end of it.

i`ll grab that off you when i`m back . cheers
