I was just down with a neighbour of mine there this evening, he's after buying a '73 1300 beetle as a project. It's got a YIP reg, same as my beetle.

Interesting history behind it, it was won in a competition back in '73 with a caravan attached!! It still has the genuine VW towbar and it came with some tart-up bits like bonnet grille, rear grille and deck-lid grille trims, gravel guards, genuine bumper over riders. He has yet to find out more info but he was told it was a competition run by one of the big soup companies like Knorr or Erin although a conflicting tale he was told was that it was a washing powder company, like Daz or Persil. He's going to try to contact the original owner on the log book so it'll all come out in the wash anyway (groan!).

Anyway, it's got the usual Irish-built beetle maladies: rot in the channels, front and rear quarter panel bottoms, spare wheel well, front apron, rear cross members, A-pillar bottoms. It'll need doors and a bonnet too. It's not the worst beetle I've ever seen but it's not great :(

So to that end, he's considering replacing the body shell with a better one. Even a LHD shell would do, swapping the dash would be easier to sort than a full restoration of what he has. Has anyone got a good '70s bodyshell they'd sell?

He'll also need doors and a bonnet as I mentioned so if they don't come on the replacement shell, he'll be looking for those too :)
