This is the shell from my now (finally) abandoned Subaru beetle project. I got it from Baz about 12 years ago and it's been dry stored since. When I got it, Baz had cut out the rear bumper hangers, the back apron, a little of the lower left rear quarter to eliminate the rot that must have been in the shell. While in the interim it's lost a little more steel, there is as close to ZERO rot in the shell as you're going to get. It will need some "reassembly" to make it a complete shell again but at least you'll be dealing with 100% solid 60 year old German steel. I cut some great big lumps out of the front and the rear but saved most of what I cut out so it can be put back right again. The bonus is that once put back right, any evidence of my previous misdemeanours will be hidden behind carpets or underseal.
I also have loads of parts I collected over the years to complete the shell. I bought the bare shell from Baz, literally not a nut or bolt left on it so I sourced most of the stuff needed to round it out. Johan was very helpful in gathering up a lot of the parts. Wherever possible, I tried to buy the best original parts I could find. There are some new, repro parts but most are good used parts. A lot of them are original oval stuff, a mixture of years it's got to be said but it was never going to be a "matching numbers" car so to all but the utter dregs of the "I've got no willy" Owen McLove trainspotters, it would look like an oval again once reassembled. For example, the wings are '58 and up, the bonnet is 1960s, the decklid is '56/'57 etc.
I spent a few hours last night photographing as much of the collection as I could find then making a list of what I remembered I paid for them or what I figured they'd be worth. Estimations really. Then I went and priced the new parts on VWHeritage etc and scoured VZI to get a ballpark figure for similar condition, similar era parts. Suffice to say, the figure I estimated was a nice bit south of the comparible prices from Heritage and VZI. Oval stuff is expensive!!
So, I'm offering the parts listed for a round figure of €3000. My initial naive estimation was €3500 and the prices I found to verify my values were well beyond €4500 so I think someone's going to get a bargain if they don't mind putting in some spade work putting the shell back right. Please don't ask me to split up the collection yet. I'm hoping someone will come good on my 12 years of gathering (hoarding? ) parts and put it back together. If nobody takes the lot within a reasonable amount of time then I'll consider dividing up the parts.
€3k is the price and that's that. No offers please. Check the list here yourself and go get your own values. Add them up and I guarantee you'll well exceed the €3000 figure. A collection like this doesn't come up every day of the week. Either you want this stuff in your life or you don't.
