1983 Golf GTI 1.8 Campaign, Diamond Silver
Genuine EW chassis, Original DX engine with 116k miles.
Was originally UK reg A133CRR, now 83-DL-1667

Its all very standard, down to the 5 original Pirelli wheels, complete with 4 genuine centre caps (yes, with the raised Pirelli lettering)

I bought it from UK a few years ago and did lots of work to it.

New clutch
New crank seal (engine oil had leaked onto clutch)
New sump gasket & gear oil
New wishbones
New balljoints (twice !)
New Shocks (front & rear)
New springs (front & rear)
New topmounts (front & rear)
New bumpstops
New ARB bushes front & rear (genuine VAG)
New rear ARB outer clips
New discs & pads
New sunroof seal (genuine VAG)
New ignition switch
New track rods & ends.
New expansion tank, cap & level sender.

I used it as a daily driver for a while, but got itchy feet and garaged it.

Problems -
1. Front fog lights dont work.
2. Needs rear wiper motor (got a replacement but it was faulty also)
3. Flashing oil pressure light in dash - Engine has good oil pressure, suspect internal problem in dash electronics.

Other things that spring to mind are :
-Sunroof needs height adjusting as it scrapes very slightly when slid open
-small crack on outside of driver-side headlight glass (passed last NCT)

Comes with lots of parts that I never got around to replacing :
New rear brake drums
New rear brake shoes & fitting kit
New water pump, thermostat & thermostat housing (with new O-ring)
New sensors for oil pressure (high & low) and water temperature
New sparkplugs
New dust/dirt guards for front discs
One new plastic wheelarch GTI trim (i think its front left, will check)

And also comes with some parts that came with it when I bought it:
-Wiper mechanism
-Matching lock set (Ignition, Doors & boot) - Currently all are different keys
-Used heater fan (came with car, condition unknown)
-original plastic air intake pipe (has pipercross straight aluminium pipe fitted)

Also comes with 4 springs. I think about 20mm higher than GTI so maybe standard Mk1 Golf springs ? I fitted them and realised they were too high. Probably around 1000 miles on them.

Location is Letterkenny, Co. Donegal.

Price is 3500 ono

More pics <snip> , and I can email high-res versions if needed.

Cheers.
Declan

Looks like there were patches welded on top of the old sills :dizzy:

sounds like a typical UK MOT bodge.

The MR2 I did last year was exactly like that, rust hole, bang a big square patch over the hole, weld around perimeter, coat of stonechip, job done. Thing is the rust is still in there behind the patch and will find its way out again. The MR2 had evidence of three layers of patches over each other in one spot! So at least it got through three MOTs before it was given some love!!

It's not much more work to do it properly.

fix it up and get an NCT on it, it'll up the value of the car and hopefully make it more saleable. Bad time of year to be selling though, after Christmas and all. The offer of swapping all your €20s for tenners (swapping your GTI for the Derby) is still there ;)

Long shot here, but would you fancy a swap for a motorbike?

A 2004 Suzuki Bandit 600cc, just over 10k miles. It's in mint condition too!
