[Wanted: Parts] 1974 beetle front beam

Hi Guys, I've been lingering around the forum for a good while now and just bought a 1974 1303, I'll get some pics up of it once everything has been sorted on it.

Anyways, took it to the mechanic to get the brakes fixed on it and he said the front beam on it is rotten and needs to be replaced, anyone got one?

1303's don't have a front beam. What exactly do you need?

they dont have a front axle either mate? 1303 has a pair of modern style struts on the front? a normal flat screen beetle had a front axle/beam which consists of two tubes one above each other.

haha sorry lads I'm getting this information from the mechanic through my dad, I'm in Dublin at the minute but will take a run up to Derry and find out what he's talking about.

Maybe it's a 1300, not a 1303?

I'll find out, I need to check the documents to see, its had older wings and bonnet put on it to make it look like an older model than it actually is.

then it's a 1300. You can't put the older panels on a 1303...

so you're back looking for a front beam!!

I thought that too but wasn't sure. I have one on the shell at home i can whip it off and see what its like should be ok, if your interested.

1300 (or standard 70s beetle)...


1303 (or super beetle)...


Notice the curved windscreen and shorter rounder bonnet on the bottom one. That's the difference, looks-wise.

They're both 74 beetles if thats what you mean!

Impact bumpers and big indicators on the red one make it look 03ishy.

Yeah a little. It's a US spec car. I'm not so keen on those massive indicators on the red one. They look a fair bit bigger than mine.
