Hi folks,

just wondering if anyone has the speaker casing for late beetle will take it with or witout the original speaker, plan is to refurb the case and replace the speaker for modern one.

Thanks

Paul

do you mean the box that was under the dash on your bug Paul? It wasn't a stock VW part, it would be an aftermarket item...

Cheers trev yep that the case alright were the originals different ? I just assumed this was the standard set up? I need a second speaker to bring it from mono to stereo and had assumed if I mounted two cases beside each other in the same location it would cover me. I don't want to go near the rear parcel shelve or door cards or under the back seat i want to keep all intact.

the stock speaker for a beetle (for those lucky enough to have a factory radio fitted!) was a small oval shaped one behind the large grille in the dash. Nothing else. The item you have is aftermarket.

For proper stereo sound you need the speakers separated from each other. I think we have a sound engineer in here somewhere who might advise on setup. Or any of the DJs might know a thing or two about speakers.

Like Britt said, the kick panels are a nice unobtrusive way of having speakers in your bug without cutting anything up. I have them in mine. I think I got away with drilling two tiny holes each for self-tapping screws to secure them...

Cheers trev Britt, I had considered the kick panel option but I am not convinced I rather a really clean look. Just me being awkward I am not music mad so I am not looking for anything thats going to completely drown the nice hum from my engine.. I will have to reconsider my options I spoke to a sound engineer in work who reckons side by side will be a big improvement on mono but not ideal, but I am after function more than performance easy listening and all that.

How about a unit that sits on the rear boot floor - i did this in my old car so i could take it out if needed. No drilling. I also put the radio in the glove box
I covered the unit in black / grey carpet and it turned out well. You are also able to go for larger speakers
